Once the darling of of California, Governor Gavin Newsom has been attempting to recover from a backlash from all sides of the political map because of his locking down of the state last year in response to COVID-19. While thousands of businesses shuddered in California under Governor Newsom’s lockdown orders, it has been proven that they were never effective in combating COVID-19.
And while many found the lockdowns unconstitutional and ineffective, they decimated California’s businesses and the mental health of its residents. The lockdowns shuddered businesses and kept residents inside their homes last year.
It is under this cloud that Governor Newsom may be recalled and forced from office by California voters who are furious with his response to COVID-19. The effort has until March 17, 2021 and as of February 5, 2021, there were 1.1 million recall petition signatures submitted (668,202 validated so far). The effort will need to have 1,495,709 confirmed voter signatures by the March 17, 2021 deadline in order for a recall election to occur.
The anger really swelled when a viral video was posted showing the favoritism allowed to the film industry over regular businesses and starkly displayed how Newsom’s lockdowns, and by local governments, were not about the health of California residents, but about power.
