There has been some recent chatter on the Internet about a desire by many to see life and business strategist Tony Robbins run for president. Most think their choices are limited to Joe Biden or Donald Trump and are not happy with either, while not hearing of their third choice who is expected to be on the ballot in all 50 states alongside them, Jo Jorgensen.
While some argue online assuming Robbins is a Democrat and others argue he is a Republican, a simple search of his Florida voter registration shows that he is neither, he is registered NPA (no party affiliation).
Today, on Facebook, a participant in a private Robbins-centered group asked, “Would you vote for Tony Robbins if he would want to be the president in 2020 if he ran? 🙋♂️✔” This prompted many responses, one stating, “Tony is a Democrat, He should take BIDEN’S place!!” And another stating, “I believe he’s actually republican.” Not to be outdone by ignorance, another argued, “I have been to 2 of his long week Trainings, He’s a Democrat.” I have kept their names private because the Facebook group is private.
The idea of Robbins running for president comes up nearly every presidential election year as Americans tend not to be happy with what they view as two disappointing choices whereas they need to choose between the “lesser of two evils.” Voters often think they only have two choices because the media discounts or rarely mentions other qualified presidential candidates, and this year is no different. For example, there are three candidates who are expected to appear on the ballot in all 50 states, yet the mainstream media chooses to only mention Joe Biden and Donald Trump, leaving Jo Jorgensen out of the conversation.
What we know about some of Robbins’ positions politically is that he feels our national debt is far too high and that he feels we should reopen our economy as the COVID epidemic is not as bad as being reported in the mainstream media. We also know he believes strongly in private charities and people working themselves to not only be self-reliant but also hugely successful in all aspects of their lives. He sounds more like a Libertarian than a Republican or Democrat, though it is immaterial as when he has been asked this question on several occasions, he answers that he has little to no interest. But that doesn’t stop people from drafting online petitions and pleading with him online to run.
As for 2020, Robbins would not qualify to be on the ballot in all 50 states. Just like Kanye West, if serious, could not appear on the ballot in all the states because various key dates have already passed. The only three presidential candidates who are expected to appear on the ballot for all American voters are Joe Biden, Jo Jorgensen, and Donald Trump.
For proper disclosure: I am Chairman of the Libertarian Party of Palm Beach County and have also attended several of Robbins’ events since 1994 and have volunteered my time crewing several events and taking part in several charity Basket Brigades over the years.
