Vegan food tasting cook-off a success in Delray

Delray Beach, Fla — The owners of The New Vegan restaurant, Rahein and Patricia Jones, organized a vegan cook-off between local chefs last night where approximately 50 guests enjoyed a wide array of foods. To make the cook-off extra challenging, and to be up to The New Vegan’s standards, all the food had to not only be made without any meat or dairy, it also had to be made without soy, wheat/gluten or honey while being non-GMO. This was the first of what is expected to become an annual event.

The event, held at Greenlands in Delray Beach, Florida, had chefs from many different backgrounds; from vegan bodybuilder Korin Sutton to 18-year-old entrepreneur Ariel Levin. Guests were also wide-ranging and included vegetarian BlackZilions star fighters Carrington “Jet Setter” Banks and Abel Trujillo to many vegan enthusiasts from all walks of life.

Food available included everything from french toast to fried “chicken” to open-faced tacos. The ultimate winner of last night’s challenge was Lynn Dorsey from Magick In Your Kitchen which can be found at The Secret Garden Cafe in Boynton Beach. Dorsey’s food consisted of steak made from Jackfruit with garlic mashed potatoes.

Second runner up was Levin who made the open-faced tacos and who just started her own vegan catering business, Plantway Cafe. We could not find a Facebook page or website for her new venture; however, she can be reached through this email link.
