Today, August 26, 2015, we revisit The New Vegan in downtown Delray Beach, Florida after it closed for a remodel. We were impressed with the improved professional, cozy look of this popular restaurant. The New Vegan is located at 528 NE 2nd Street, just two blocks north of the hustle and bustle of downtown Delray and is owned by Chef Rahein Jones. It is also the only restaurant in town where you can get a truly healthy vegan meal, with no GMO ingredients, no soy and no gluten. Additionally, most if not all of their food is organic.
The new look at The New Vegan includes organic wood wall coverings (they are organic because they did not use any chemical treatments to the wood). They brought in some new chairs and tables, now seating 25 guests. They added two chandeliers while getting rid of its to-go counter, lending that space to an expanded kitchen prep area. The restaurant also has added a high seat counter facing their large north facing windows. The New Vegan is also sporting a new professional logo which includes the basis of much of the restaurant’s food which is the chickpea. Those who are not vegan have also enjoyed the food at The New Vegan, meaning carnivores are welcome to get a quality meal alongside vegetarians and vegans.
The New Vegan also now has a burger mix guests can purchase so they can make the restaurant’s tasty vegan burgers at home. This is good because last month the restaurant won the Boca Burger Battle’s “Best Alternative Grill Master” award. Additionally, next month, the restaurant will re-start its popular cooking classes starting on the first Monday of each month from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
In addition to other notable guests, last week the restaurant was visited by former NFL football player Tron LaFavor & his wife. LaFavor played for the Chicago Bears (2003), the Carolina Panthers (2004), the Dallas Cowboys (2004) and the Baltimore Ravens (2005).
The New Vegan is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays with the rest of the week having hours from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Guests can have breakfast from 10 a.m. through 12 p.m. which can include waffles and french toast which is absolute ambrosia. The restaurant is still only accepting cash for payment, so no credit or debit cards; fortunately there is an ATM located just across the street at the cigar bar. If you can’t make it to the restaurant, Delivery Dudes will happily deliver your meal to your door.
